Blues not targeted as transfer window shuts
CLOSING the transfer window came as a relief to Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth, as clubs rumoured to be after his players looked elsewhere.
The summer transfer window shut with only Charles Dunne departing Adams Park, although the defender has since rejoined Blues on loan for the rest of the season.
Ainsworth said he was able to relax when he saw other clubs conducted business elsewhere, meaning he keeps hold of his talented team until the window opens again in January.
He said: "I won't name the clubs but a few clubs were rumoured to be in for a few of our young players, and when I saw them sign players in those positions I was a relieved man because I knew then they weren't going to take my players.
"It was a nervous day. I sat at home and the phone was on but nothing happened. At one minute past 11 I admit I had a nice smile on my face.
"I'm obviously a bit nervous for January now. we've got a good three months to work with these boys and progress them. I'm always really proud when they move on because they deserve it, but I want to keep the best players here."
