Gaz: We won't make the same mistakes again
GARETH Ainsworth said he won't make the same mistakes that contributed to defeat in Wanderers' last home game as they return to Adams Park tomorrow.
The Blues boss admitted he got his tactics and team selection wrong as Wycombe were beaten by Mansfield in their last outing on home soil.
But he was pleased at the response from his players as they were a 96th minute equaliser away from beating Oxford at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday and he's looking for his men to build on that as they welcome Southend United.
Ainsworth said: "We seemed to respond very well from the Mansfield game. I wasn't happy after that game.
"Everyone was at fault that day, myself included. My tactics, my team selection - I'm big enough to say maybe I got things wrong, but some of the boys out there said they were just off it.
"Everyone knows the effort is always there. Sometimes certain things go wrong and there's no rhyme or reason to it. Once six or seven players are off form the team looks terrible, and that's what happened that day.
"That won't happen again. We got sucked into playing a horrible long ball game against Mansfield and we've all learned from it. The response on Saturday was superb.
"Whatever team I pick they'll be performing. They'll be giving their all, like I expect them to."
Going into last weekend's matches Oxford were one of only two teams to have a 100 per cent record after three matches.
Southend were the other and Ainsworth is hoping to heap more misery on the Shrimps after the Essex side were beaten by Chesterfield last week.
He said: "It's great to have ended Oxford's winning run - now hopefully we can take the points against Southend. We've tasted defeat and it's not very good. We don't want to be doing that too often.
"I don't think anyone will be thinking about the Mansfield game. Everyone will be looking to see if we can build on Oxford and that's what I want them to do."
Ainsworth will be without the suspended Charles Dunne and Stuart Lewis, while Paris Cowan-Hall is also out through knee ligament damage.
Southend duo Marc Laird and Julian Bennett are definitely out while Mark Phillips faces a late fitness test.
