Addicks not giving up on French midfielder deal yet
CHARLTON transfer target Eric Tie Bi has returned to France after failing to agree a deal with the Addicks - but could still join the club if all parties can thrash out their differences.
The 23-year-old midfielder had been training at Sparrows Lane last week and Valley manager Chris Powell spoke confidently seven days ago about the chances of snapping him up.
However, the terms offered to the Evian player did not impress him or his representative and now uncertainty surrounds the move, although Powell feels there is still a chance of getting the deal done between now and Monday’s transfer deadline.
The SE7 boss said: “We kind of wanted to do something with Eric.
“He and his agent weren’t exactly happy with the deal.
“We felt it was something we would like to do but we want it to make both parties happy and the deal they wanted, we weren’t happy, and the deal we offered, they weren’t happy.
“We haven’t come to a satisfactory conclusion as I sit here now. We might do by Monday, we might not.
“At present there is no deal imminent but there is still time for it to possibly happen.
“He has gone back to France because they (his club) only wanted us to have him for a few days.
“He showed up well but of course it is always a risk bringing players in - and it is always a risk for him as he doesn’t really know us, he doesn’t know the area and we just wanted him to feel comfortable - but there are still discussions to be had.”
One player who will not be joining the club is Arsenal’s Emmanuel Frimpong after the former Charlton loanee was linked with a return to SE7 this morning by a national newspaper.
“Joining here?” responded Powell when asked if the story had any foundation before bursting out laughing.
