Orient boss delighted with wonderful start but admits they have long way to go
Russell Slade admits the O’s have made a “wonderful start” to the season but have a long way to go after staying top of League One.
Leyton Orient have won all three of their league matches so far and sit ahead of Peterborough United, who also have a 100 per cent record, on goal difference.
The early pacesetters have sparked hopes of a promotion push this year after narrowly missing out on the top-six last season but Slade is determined not to get carried away with their early form.
When asked about how their start had captured the imagination of their supporters, Slade replied: “And so it should have. They’re right behind the team and it’s a wonderful start for us but it’s only three games and we’ve got an awful long way to go. But the momentum, attitude and spirit in the camp is very, very good. You saw that at Stevenage as they worked very hard for each other.”
Orient return home to face Crewe this weekend and centre-back Mathieu Baudry is expected to be available despite going off at Stevenage with a slight recurrence of his hip injury.
Slade said: “We’ll enjoy this victory and then get geared up for that one. It’s a very important game for us but they’re all important.”
