Leyton Orient v Carlisle United fan's view

Shaun Batt netted in the O's win over Carlisle United: Simon O'Connor
Cast your minds back to a little over three weeks ago. We had just been dumped out of the often-derided Football League Trophy and probably the majority of Orient fans were thinking of where our season would be going.
Coupled with a depressing and lifeless home defeat against fellow mid-tablers, Crawley Town, and you would have thought we were facing more of a battle to at least stay in the lower reaches of the table, rather than be in the play-offs mix.
Arguably, then the result of the season at Sheffield United soon got us back in the groove and from thereon – six games without defeat – four of them wins – and three on the bounce – have left us in perfect striking distance of a coveted play-off spot.
However, it would have been so easy for the players to have taken their foot of the gas – with – realistically – nothing to play for – and the attendances to drop off accordingly.
But, the team are continuing to buck the trend and now with four fit strikers – who seem to be scoring for fun – I don’t think I’ve ever had good reason for saying that given our goals ‘for’ tally – opposing defences must be quaking in their boots.
It might have been an ‘ugly, gritty’ performance in midweek against Pompey, but the win – and a season’s double – against an admittedly disappointing Carlisle was probably one of the best of the campaign - or at least on a par when we beat Yeovil by a similar scoreline way back in September.
That Glovers conquest – however – proved to be a bit of a false dawn, as we embarked on a rather inconsistent patch. But fast forward to mid-March 2013 and with different – and most definitely – better players throughout the squad, then we should be going to Deepdale this coming Saturday with a ‘no fear’ attitude and the belief that we can repeat the feat of winning there as we did last season.
Keep the faith,
Up the O’s.
