Watford legend Nigel Gibbs has left Reading following the sacking of manager Brian McDermott.

Gibbs played 491 times for Watford in all competitions and went on to become the Hornets' chief scout, reserve team manager and assistant manager.

The 47-year-old had been at Reading since 2006 and was first team coach prior to leaving the Royals last night.

Reading's website said: "Everyone at Madejski Stadium would like to wholeheartedly thank Nigel for his valuable contribution since arriving at Reading."

The Royals' head of academy Eamonn Dolan will take charge of the first team until a permanent successor is appointed.

Gibbsy's a man who knows how to get out of this division. Get him on board.

Reading are bound to stay up now. No manager and a slimmed back room will be sure to foster a great 7 game stint.

Nothing shocks me in football but I was suprised that Reading sacked McDermott. He could put a positive spin on almost anything, then his luck ran out.

Reading, QPR and Southampton are my three for the drop. Frankly i doubt a change of manager at this stage will change that. It does show though that every promotion team needs significant investment (the right sort too) to keep their heads above water - It is not just about buying players and changing the backroom staff - something to ponder in the next few months

Big mistake letting those two leave it is not going to change anything. They will drop and those they got rid of know the Championship well.

As usual the idiot with the squeaky voice remains. Aka Nicky Hammond, Director of Football who deemed that all they really needed was to add Mapps and Shorey to the squad. same guy of course who poached Judas.

Obviously the Russian and Squeaky felt they had enough with world class players like Jobi, Kebe etc

Absolute madness. Brian McDermott won manager of the month back in Jan (only 5 weeks ago) yet now he is no good. Hope he finds another job soon. A few good managers out there with the like of him, Adkins and some real s**t in Hughes (Just wish QPR had kept hold of him a little longer!)

Be quite honest, I couldn't give a frig. He won't leave empty handed, and he's probably best away if truth known.
Makes you realise how stable our lot are though.

Typical.
You put your heart and soul into getting your side into the Premiership against the "Big Boys"; then when your owners can't compete financially you get chopped.

I wish McDermott & Gibbsy well.

Where is bushey tales these days ? gone awfully quiet ! probably given his season ticket back in protest at the shabby treatment of Dychey and that tap not getting fixed in the upper Rous.

Wasn't it just. Mind you he was clapping his hands a lot, and shouting out instructions...think I heard...baked beans on toast on the go lads, or something as utterly useless
