Watford Under-18s boss Dave Hughes says his players need to be more ruthless after the young Hornets lost 2-1 against Leyton Orient in the Youth Alliance South East division.

The academy side were second best in the first half and found themselves two goals down at the break but a spirited display in the second period saw Kamaron English pull a goal back for the Golden Boys.

“I thought the game was evenly-matched," Hughes told the club website.

"Unfortunately for the lads they were on the losing side, despite playing the better of the football in the second period.

“It’s a tough one, we spoke about it afterwards. I thought we started quite brightly and created a couple of early chances that maybe we should have taken.

"Obviously the performance is paramount, but we want the players to understand about being ruthless. I’d say if I was being critical that we weren’t ruthless enough at both ends."

The Under-18s are back in action this afternoon as they host Southend United at London Colney. Kick-off is at 1pm.
