Ainsworth sweating on Grant fitness

JOEL Grant is Wanderers' only fitness doubt for tomorrow's trip to Rochdale as he tries to shake off an ankle problem.

The injury ruled the eight-goal winger out of the win against Fleetwood on Saturday and manager Gareth Ainsworth said yesterday he still needs assessing.

He said: "I would have said he was 50/50 on Tuesday. I haven't seen him this morning [Thursday] so I hope he can increase that percentage, but I'm very reluctant to risk people unless they are over 90-95 per cent fit."

The sides are on contrasting runs of form as they prepare to lock horns at Spotland, with Wanderers having won their last two while Dale have won just once in 2013.

That dismal run of results - they've lost six out of ten this year - led to the sacking of John Coleman and the reappointment of Keith Hill, who led them to a ninth placed finish in League One just two seasons ago.

Ainsworth, an apprentice at Blackburn with Hill, said: "He had David Flitcroft with him as assistant. David's got the Barnsley job so him and Keith have split. It'll be interesting to see what Keith is like as the manager there in his second spell."

He added: "If we perform like we've performed in the last four games we'll definitely have a chance of winning the points at Rochdale. The lads are on a high, we are playing really well and the spirit here's fantastic. With the way we are playing we've got every right to go up there and take something from Rochdale."
