Bushey boxer Miles Shinkwin says Rule Britannia being postponed is 'part of boxing'
Bushey boxer Miles Shinkwin accepts the 'Rule Britannia' show being postponed is part of the sport.
World-renowned boxing promoter Frank Warren this morning announced his 'Rule Britannia' event at Wembley Arena on March 16 was being pushed back until April 20 due to illness to Miguel Vasquez and Nathan Cleverly.
Shinkwin was due to appear on the undercard and will be once more at the rearranged event on April 20.
"It is part of sport. Things go wrong and you just have to deal with it," Shinkwin said this morning.
"Obviously I'm not happy but it can't be helped."
He joked: "What will be hard is having to wait a bit longer for that fry-up. I haven't had one for ages and it is not easy when you are a plumber.
"At least this week I can now relax a bit more for Liam's fight."
Shinkwin's cousin Liam is fighting as part of the 'London's Finest' show at Wembley Arena this weekend, which is headlined by Darren Barker.
Another of Shinkwin's cousins was due to attend Miles' bout on March 16 with a large group of his friends but will no longer be able to attend due to the postponement.
Miles explained: "My cousin is in the army and about 20 of those lads had booked time off that weekend so they can't come now. I also had a 60-seater coach from my local pub and a lot of those can't come to the rearranged date but that is life and that is boxing."
The light heavyweight used to be part of an England squad which included rising star George Groves, who has this morning announced his split from Warren to Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing, and the pair have been doing doing eight and ten-round sparring in recent weeks.
Shinkwin won his first two professional bouts within a month of each other last year and was initially hoping to fight on March 23 and April 20, although it has since been confirmed that won't happen.
He said: "Me and George are pals from when we were on the England squad together back when we were amateurs.
"We kept in touch and about six months ago he asked about doing some sparring but things kept coming up which meant it didn't happen.
"We have been sparring for three or four weeks now and it has been good."
The 'Rule Britannia’ show, which will be televised on Box Nation, will include world title fights for Ricky Burns and Cleverly plus Dereck Chisora should also be in action.
Promoter Warren explained on his Twitter page: "We can confirm that we've had to move the Rule Britannia show back to April 20. The reason for this is Miguel Vasquez has a viral infection and rather than bring in a late replacement, we felt that the unification fight was integral for Ricky's career path at this stage.
"Additionally Nathan Cleverly this week has been suffering from a stomach virus that has left him unable to train this week."
He continued: "We apologise to fans who have booked travel and accommodation for the show and have been inconvenienced by this unavoidable change.
"Tickets that have been purchased for the show will be still be valid for the new date."
Shinkwin is sponsored by The Shire golf course, B&L Builders plus RCD and SRD Recruitment.
