Nigel Clough believes “there was nothing in” Saturday’s game between Watford and Derby County and claimed not doing the basics well enough was what cost his team.
The Rams’ manager praised his team’s work rate and performance at Vicarage Road but was left ruing what he described as their “Achilles heel” of not being able to defend corners.
You can hear a section of Clough’s post-match press conference below.

I guess that is why football managers are football managers and 80% of people watching are ignorant to tactics, strategy and formations.....
However this is the game that has done it for me. We did not play very well....yet made it 3 wins in a week and have given Deeney and Vydra a rest. I love Watford FC.

On a different note, couldn't get tickets for the AYP thing tonight. Does anyone know whether it'll be on Hornets Player like the fans forum was?

Lots of the crowd getting anxious and shouting at the players to steam forward in the 2nd half but you can see the logic behind the Vydra / Hogg substitution. Our passing and intensity was off....so we put in an extra man in midfield and say to Derby come on then what can you do...I cannot really remember Bond being troubled even though they played it in and around our penalty box an awful lot which looks bad on the eye but in reality is not a problem.

What is becoming very clear is not many opposition managers want to give WFC much credit. Not to many Mick McCarthy types about nowadays just a bunch of sad losers. When Hull took us apart a few months back Gianfranco was the first to compliment Alex Bruces side on how good a side they was on the day.

We did the same thing vs. Brum at home and (less successfully) Palace at home.
Take the penalty out of the equation (2nd time Richard Keogh has won a dubious penalty by falling over at a corner at the Vic) and im struggling to remember them having any real attempt on goal

The only reason they had more of the 2nd half was because (rightly or wrongly) we let them.

I am well chuffed with the progress being made. I'll be the first to hold my hands up and say that I was totally against Dyche being given the heave-ho, but GZ is doing a cracking job. Looking back, I think we could've done with Eustace in midfield for the final part of the game against Derby as we were getting slightly over-run, and Eustace doesn't waste many balls, but we got the result and that's the main thing.
Roll-on Friday. It really won't be easy as Wolves will be craving for a win. Hopefully that'll leave them open at the back.
This is the start of the final push now folks. Pull together and enjoy the ride.
I thank you

Well well well. Watford were way ahead of Derby in terms of quality but Derby did have a spurt of ambition after they'd been given the penalty. We should've been given a free-kick directly before they were handed a dodgy penalty and, had the score stayed 2-0 (which I know it didnt) then what would Clough have said?
