Not Surprised, Cardiff could go up that day if results go their way in next few weeks, which means Cardiff will not only sell their allocation but will flood the town and be a security risk (ala Friday night just gone).....

Palace fans were everywhere Friday night in town, yet no police inside ground so their teenagers let off flares unopposed by stewarding

Just highlighted the need to move the away fans (East Stand or lower rous) and have the Vic Road End as unreserved easy pay and entry Stand to allow vociferous bonding and support, creating better home atmosphere.
Then those that wish to sit all game, say nowt can sit in reserved seats together, and those that have passion in their souls and want to create a traditional football atmosphere can sit or stand together at Vic End unreserved seating, pay on the door (pay as you go) ...
We ain't little old boring Watford anymore, club and players have stepped up, time for fans to follow suit !!!
Finally, if home fans in Vic end no need to shut pub as can direct away fans down occupation road round houses (ala Forest away) up via allotments to and from ground

I sit next to and around people in the rookery that are v silent. They seem to think their input is to criticise players rather than use that voice to cheer or sing. Please un reserved seating so that people who want to sing can. Atmosphere doesn't need to mean violence. We need drums, flags, anything that we can to improve atmosphere.

I've put a thread on WFC Forum in relation to atmosphere and one idea was for people who want to sing to move to Vic end for one game, by speaking to TO, and a certain area booked for that game only. That way then we could see who is up for this.

Away fans always generate more atmosphere don't they? The Vic has hardly ever been a cauldron of noise. Reserved seating kills it.
Even when the home team is 2 - 0 up and looking at moving into second spot in the league table.
I'd love a cauldron of noise but something close to an atmosphere would do for starters on such a big night.

It really pi$$es me off when people get mocked for trying to create an atmosphere, as it clearly gets the team going when there is noise, mind you when any player does something wrong the sound of the "tutt" that echoes round the stadium is phenomenal! maybe someone should get the Guinness world record people along to a home game for that.
Loudest tutt ever recorded, vicarage road, every bleedin week!!!

Away fans make an occasion of a game whilst home fans just want to be entertained whilst watching their team get 3 points. Our away support has at times this season been brilliant and it will be at Birmingham on Saturday.
Maybe unreserved seating is the answer. My only reservation is, I have stood in the same place in front of my seat at the back of the Rookery for about 12 years and I like it there although a few seats along there are some proper old gits who force everyone to sit down in front of them. If you sit on the back row you do not need a seat.
I've just convinced myself - unreserved seating IS the answer.

As for away support ours is as good as any other clubs given the numbers. In the late seventies early eighties we would take 2000 plus & sometimes for big games double that and that just for league games but then home attendances against Shrewsbury, Hull etc broke 20,000,
Given our ground now we have restricted sales at the Vicarage Road End, Families littering the Rookery and far too many prawn sandwiches in the Rous we will rarely get the ground rocking and a new East Stand will not change that too much.
3rd in the table, unable to fill three sides of the ground says it all. People subscribe to Sky for their excellent coverage but still like to go to live matches for the atmosphere...but unless we are in the premiership there is not going to be an atmosphere, bring on Man U and noise will erupt as we will be underdogs, bring on Palace and welcome to the library.
Obviously the answer is to play Man U at home every week!

seriously, there is a lad at all the Yeovil games who is simply fantastic on the bugle (like the england band). he starts all the chants and is the focal point for all the support.
If we can do it "down ere" surely why not at Watford? WFC advertize for said Bugler, 5 pints of Stella (after)and a free t shirt, simple.
Now to Saturday. if Leicester took

1. An area for like minded fans to congregate with unreserved seating.
2. More lenient stewarding to allow fans to express themselves (within law).
3. Drums, flags, a bugle player, possibly a song leader with a loud hailer (like in Europe).
4. A Watford anthem (like you'll never walk alone or such like).
5. Fans to really pull together on this to pull it off.
6. Fans and club to pull together.
The new owners have invested so much and saved our club, it's time that we stood up and gave back to the club and team vocally.

As it happens the club would appreciate vocal support, and why you think Duxbury would be against this against the much fabled family image ( look at the empty seating at every game in family area, 700 odd family members).
Compared to when we were in Div 4 and 3 with GT at the helm the support is appalling but in current times we are little different from QPR, Fulham etc and if you asked Mr Duxbury he would I am sure like greater numbers but noisy support?? I doubt it the powers to be like the family club image, they do not want the bad language that goes with noisy support.

Players often ask for vocal support, and remark on away games atmosphere.
As for occasions go to certain pubs and clubs around town before games, the same rituals are in place as away games, but then off we go in silos, forced to sit with monks. This is where it breaks down.
I would also say local derbies such as the Palace game is when the noise and excitement should be at its peak, not waiting for Man Utd once a season.
Being in the prem will alter nothing, it's the changing of mind sets and that all important area for us to gather.

The sooner attendances are on the up the Club will be forced to reconfigure the stadium and allow unreserved seating in certain areas. Although a vicious circle I can't see much happening short term whilst poor attendances and no atmosphere.
Bottom line is that the supporters should take a good look at themselves and ask what do I contribute when I attend. Do I sit in silence and expect to be entertained maybe just moaning when things aren't going so well. Or do I do my bit in being the twelfth man, doesn't matter how old you are either!!!
I went to Chelsea on Saturday and considering the attendance was 3x what we get, the home support was not exactly taking the roof off. If only we could recreate the away dar atmosphere at home such as Charlton away

Some of the stories he has told me of the night games at The Vic you would think it was a different club all together now. I'll always remember him taking me as a kid standing in the Vicarage Road end, the atmosphere was good. The people who wanted to make noise were all together. Away support is always going to be louder per person - that is obvious. Just look at the demographics of those who go. Much higher % of young/ middle-aged men, ie those who make noise.
You can't complain if someone asks you to sit down in front of them - some people can't stand for 90 minutes - they shouldn't be stopped from watching the game because you want to stand.

Bringing back terracing is the answer. Unlikely to happen but always a better atmosphere. Certainly the home support should be moved back to the vicarage road end.
The best atmosphere I can remember in recent years was the second leg of the play-offs against Palace when they were given the half of the LR and we had the rest of the ground.

Unreserved seating doesn't necessarily work. I used to love getting in the Vicarage Road end at 1.30 to make sure I had a decent seat, got me properly in the mood. But, say a Tuesday night game, can't get to the ground before 7.30 or so, lucky to make kick off - I then have to sit right in the corner because someone who doesn't work and can get there early enough can take my usual seat? No thanks.
But what we are asking is a move away from you lot. So we can actually support our clubs and you can carry on snoozing. Then everyones happy!
I think the best comment is about having one set people that everyone goes to before the game. That would definitely create an atmosphere on the walk down Vicarage Road and takes it into the ground. That I am well up for. But I want my seat.

I also know away fans are usually the noisier, more so these days in our sanatised , but we were 2-0 up and as the Palace fans mocked 'we were s**t'!
If we go up and the Luon closes for every big game, it's going to be shut most games. Pants decision by OB

Luton Down - the atmosphere in the first half was great on Friday. 2nd half it was terrible but I can understand that - was so frustrating to see such a change. Of course we should have done more to lift the team but I can understand people getting frustrated and everything going flat. And you should never worry about Palace fans mocking - want to be like those mugs letting off flares? They were only noisy cause they spent all their giro in the pub before hand

Regarding the aatmosphere (or lack of it) I stood up at the back of the Lower Rous against Bolton, just in front of the disabled enclosure at the Rookery end and TWICE some miserable old git asked the stewards to kick me out because I was "giving him a headache".
I was not useing foul language although I did call the ref a bloody idiot more than once. Seriously, why do some of our tans bother going? We have so many miserable bar stewards who claim to "support" the hornets will not tolerate volume at a level above that of a gnats ****!
So to those of you who recognise yourself from the above description, either stay away, join in the fun, or shut up and let those of us who want to get behind the boys get on with it.
good game though

Lack of passion and vocal support is not just a current thing, who remembers the piping of crowd noise over the tannoy system ?
Think it was the late 60/70s.
I remember this, think it was v. Newcastle in early 90's? cringeworthy!

Look we need to get an area that grumpy silent types can't infiltrate. We don't want to be around them nor they us.
It is obvious that they don't venture away, as those that do never object to coming to your feet or making a noise.
That I hasten to say that does not mean anyone who does not go away is a librarian. I know one guy who only goes to home games but travels fifty miles to get to the Vic. He's one noisy SOB!
An independent area is the only real solution it seems.
