Watford agree deal with Republic of Ireland Under-19s for Tommie Hoban to return early

Watford have agreed a deal with the Football Association of Ireland so defender Tommie Hoban can return to the club early due to the Hornets' game with Crystal Palace this weekend.

Hoban, 19, has not played for Watford since New Year's Day due to injury but returned last night to help the Republic of Ireland Under-19s to a 2-1 victory against the Czech Republic.

Goals from St. Patrick’s Athletic’s Ryan Coombes and Tottenham Hotspur’s Kenneth McEvoy sealed the win with Hoban playing the full 90 minutes.

The Under-19s have another game later this week but they agreed to let Hoban return to Watford early due to their rescheduled match with Crystal Palace, which will take place on Friday night.

Joel Ekstrand did not link up with the Sweden squad for their game with Argentina due to a knee injury.

And following some confusion, we can confirm Daniel Pudil did not join the Czech Republic squad for their clash with Turkey tonight. He was on standby. Matej Vydra is expected to feature in the match though.

On-loan Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah picked up his second England Under-21s cap as England beat Sweden 4-0.

A brace from Blackpool’s Tom Ince was added to by Liverpool’s Jonjo Shelvey and Sunderland’s Connor Wickham as England dispatched with Sweden with ease at Walsall’s Banks’ Stadium.

Chalobah replaced Chelsea team-mate Josh McEachran after 67 minutes.

Midfielder Sean Murray is part of the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad which take on the Netherlands at 1pm this afternoon, whilst Udinese loanee Cristian Battocchio will hope to be part of the Italian Under-20 side which face Germany at 2pm today.

Nyron Nosworthy is part of the Jamaica squad that take on Mexico in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Connor Smith has pulled out of the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 squad to concentrate of building up his fitness following injury.

So, who's left to play on Friday?

Will the word "rotation" rear it's ugly head again?

Back 3 of Doyley, Hall, Hoban, surely. And no this doesn't count as rotation - these changes are forced upon us.

Its not such a problem, should be only Nos who misses out, but with Hoban back, shouldn't be a problem. Keeping everything crossed that Matty V comes through unscathed.
I was not impressed with Pudil at the weekend, slowed down our attacks, especially in the first half and is always liable to put in a challenge as he did to give away the penalty. Still he is still learning and will only get better.
3 points there for the taking on Friday.

I only wish that it will be so easy, Palace are a good team with some standout players in their ranks.

Then I see that Dobie and Phillips have joined them!

This is NOT a game to have anything but our best eleven starting the game

We will be missing some key players on Friday. Palace can't be taken lightly and I would be happy enough with a draw. Gonna be a tough game, don't think vydra will start.

Agree Pudil didn't have his best game, particularly with the rash challenge for the penalty. However, he's the best we've had for some time in that position; he's dependable both defending and attacking and provides us with so much width. He's not the quickest, but there were so many times when he was spread very wide, right on the touchline, and didn't get the ball when he should've, but the width he and Cassetti provide gives the central 3 so much more space and time and ultimately allows the team to tick. The structure and formation of the team is so conducive to attractive football and the lads are really implementing it brilliantly. It was also great to see Bolton have a crack at us on Saturday, unlike most - they could've got something on another day although I think over the 90 mins we probably just shaded it. However it was exactly what we needed, especially going a goal down to test our desire. Great result, and good luck for a big one on Friday. Let's keep the juggernaut rolling. Not too many changes please Zola...consistency has been successful thus far and we need to keep the pressure up.

Any particular reason why we agreed to this match moving to a friday ? Surely money isnt so much an issue any longer ?
I can only presume WFC are obligated.
Anyway, so long as Sky are happy....not that anyone in their right mind would CHOOSE to tune into what most would understand to be an average Championship match.
Has anyone actually used their own time in this way ?

Injury permitting, I can see Vydra being on the bench Friday. The same for Battochio. Nos won't be available, but other than that we'll have a decent side out which will hopefully include Chalobah starting alongside Hogg.

Palace will be right up for this game and are very strong, not the same side we beat earlier in the season. They are also on form. We need Forestieri to find some form in front of goal as I cant see Vydra starting.

Almunia
Doyley Hall Hoban
Cassetti Abdi Chalobah Hogg Pudil
Deeney Forestieri

Got to play Battocchio if he is fit. He has brought so much creativity to the midfield and results when he plays have been positive. I think he's become one of the most important of the new signings with Abdi and Vydra. Just my opinion you understand.

2 wins in 12 games is hardly 'on form'. Tough game but a 2-0 victory to the glory hornet boys

I am sure that Palace have players on international duty eg Zaha as well, so they will have a similar problem.

I think she's suggesring that watching Championship football if your own team's not involved isn't exactly a riveting watch.
