Watford boss Gianfranco Zola 'pleased and proud' of Bolton win

Picture: Action Images Picture: Action Images

Gianfranco Zola was “pleased and proud” of Watford’s performance after they came from behind to beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 this afternoon.

Former Hornet Marvin Sordell gave Bolton the lead from the penalty spot but Matej Vydra equalised moments later. And it was Vydra who set up Almen Abdi to score the winner in the second half.

Vydra has now scored 11 goals in his last six league starts and Zola said: “Matej showed why so many teams are interested in him. It was another performance of quality, quantity and character. He was absolutely fantastic today.

“Cristian Battocchio and a few others were fantastic as well.

“It was a game where we had to work hard because they were good and we did that. Three games in a week is always hard for us as well. I was pleased and proud of the performance.”

Just four minutes separated Sordell’s penalty and Vydra’s equaliser and Zola believes the timing of their first goal was crucial.

“It was essential we scored the goal when we did,” Zola said.

“I thought the penalty was 50/50 but it served a purpose because we came back stronger and played much better. We reacted very well.”

Quite right to single out Battocchio. Getting very consistent.

PLEASE WATFORD, make request for those heading for internationals, if needed, only to play MAX 45 mins! Match v Palace on Friday really crucial! Could have another chance for 2nd, plus close rival.

Really important to have our best to face Zaha & Co!

Well done Watford

Little of the thread, We have the best squad in the league in my opinion but if Almunia gets a serious injury is Bond good enough to cover for him, seams to me Grenada and Udinesse have 10+ keepers should we not have taken one on loan ????. Although possibly we could have one as emergency loan not sure on the rules about that. Seams to me we are tempting providence and could get into the mess again.

A hard fought victory against an uncompromising bunch of cheats. As with all home wins, the edge is taken off by having to endure that cretin on the pitch at half time. Yesterday 20 minutes of uninterupted verbal garbage. Pity he did not go during the transfer window to that cess pit up the M1. Otherwise deal with him in the same may as Prof. Sir Stephen Hawkin deals with that equally annoying opera singer.

It was a tough game against yet another good championship team. All the way through the season looking at the various team sheets there is not much to choose between the clubs.
One thought though, Bolton had a lot of possession and we allowed them to play it in midfield and knock it around, was this a ploy from Zola to allow the teams to come onto us so some space could be opened up behind them?! Just a thought, as if our passes were a bit better we could have got into some very dangerous breakaway positions!
Maybe its a tactic we will see more of at home to avoid another bristol!
Looking forward to the palace match, hope it will be a good result for us again and that Abdi will break their hearts as he did earlier in the season.
Last point the ref today was a little Hitler! 21 fouls, 14 against us! Nah mate jog on!

I watched the 2nd half last night, and saw a Udinese match the other week, hope we have a Pozzo Cup pre season it'll be our first bit of silverware since our last one. Granada didn't look that good, but good enough to keep Real Madrid and that donkey Ronaldo quiet, and what a miss in the dying minutes.

Shame on us WFC fans. Only Peterborough and Millwall had less support than we did yesterday in the Championship. Also, I agree. Murray should be sent out on loan, if this is still possible and, sadly, so should Eustace.

If Eustace needs to go on loan, surely he may as well be sold! He got on yesterday and helped us comfortably see out the game.

Attendance could have been a bit better, personally I bought two mates who have never been before so I did my bit. Poor travelling support didn't help either though.

Determination + Quality = Promotion.

Duncan Welbourne,
Spot on. I was walking along the front of the lower rous when Vydra made that run. Bearing in mind how important it was to keep posession, preferably in their half, and run the clock down, it was almost as good as a gold. His speed and attitude/effort for the team cause is remarkable and I cant believe he broke a knee 18 months ago because surely that must have slowed his movement if only marginally.
I hope he stays with us for a few years yet as he really is as close to the perfect player as our club will ever get.

Comments of support for the the annoying guy that rabbits on the pitch before the game and at half-time I can accept if you are Okay with this.

But! If there are important messages to get over then the messages should be short and to the point otherwise folks just turn off. And yes I do go to the concourse to avoid some of the useless rabbit as I am unable to speak to my neighbours because he rabbits too long.and too loud mostly about stuff people are not listening to.

Absolutely. Anyone whose given presentations or spoke publicly would understand how tough this is.
I cannot understand why anyone would want to provoke a debate about someone who gives his best shot. Mad.

Agreed, but I don't think we have a higher than average allocation of the numpties. I think it's just a case of "empty barrels". And he probably regrets starting it now.

Shorty gives the real impression that he is a devoted hornet, get's us all going and is a perfectly decent bloke. And, although I occasionally have to stand up and talk to groups of people I feel very uncomfortable doing it so I would never criticize anyone for doing it even if they weren't very good.

I would rather spend time pondering about the 2 wins and a draw we'll get from the next 3 games and where we'll be in the league after that!

In life there are Sayers and there are doers, I fall into the category of plagiarism and stealer of old Dustys innovations!
solid gold bricks please. Only the best..
Dusty only wanted yellow block paving, so already his draft is being bettered. Keep up Dusty your lagging! ;)

Although my idea was based around the 'yellow brick road' concept with good old Elton laying them or paying for them and his bronze statue taking the helm opposite the Red Lion.

Better than a statue of Eric Morcombe moulded out of horse 5hit anyday.

Like the idea of tuxedos for the programme sellers... Plus maybe the catering staff could learn some customer service?
How's about half time lap dancing?

Elton j laying bricks? Right oh Dusty! That's going to happen, not.
Your daft idea has just got dafter, and I hence with withdraw my original support.
Folks, it was Dustys idea of a yellow brick road built by that well known building co. Elton and Furnish and adopted Sons.

Shorty I did start this and do not want to hurt your feelings about your HT monologue but just tone it down a wee bit please pal. I may be an old git in some peoples eyes and although I have done public speaking I do not envy you and your task. Your enthusiasm is undeniable but do we need to hear such things as (for example) how they are lining up in the tunnel? This is a very friendly suggestion. Perhaps make a break between each message? I apologise for using the word cretin that is unkind and not worthy but I wanted to provoke a discussion. All the best.

Well the calling of someone a cretin and not wanting to hurt their feelings then to follow through with insults like Monolouge. Friendly message? Your post is fraught with contradictions. Just sorry to the chap would have been more appropriate.

You just cannot please some people, here we are living the dream, watching the best football to have been played ever at The Vic, no more financial worries, nice pitch, happy days and they still have to moan about the bloody tone of the stadium announcer or the colour of the stewards hat, get a grip of yourself you bunch of fools or go and support the non league rubbish up the M1. I really wonder sometimes if some of our support are a true reflection on society or if we have over the years just attracted some right mongs.
I think it was a case of mistaken identity earlier - I thought YOU initiated this - Sorry!
At least you have the decency to apologise, although posts seemed to have been removed I will await others to follow.

I bet you never let other kids play with your toys...it's my Lego you can't play!
Lol!
But my old son, it was your idea, a very good one IMO, because the Vic looks third world outside.
We get the east stand sorted, a tidy up outside, we'll have a home to compliment our slick style of football.

Has anyone taken up issue with regards to the eyesore we have opposite the rous stand! I look out on it at all games and in particular at half time when I am munching on my prawn sarnie.
Something must be done to remove this atrocious monument! May I suggest it should be demolished and replaced with a more fitting monumental plinth or stand, maybe!
