GARETH Ainsworth said Monday's televised game at Gillingham is a chance for his players to showcase their talents, rather than him showing off his managerial skills.

The Blues boss has guided his men to seven wins from their last eleven League Two games as they prepare to face a side who went back to the top of the table with a midweek victory over Northampton.

And Ainsworth, who was nominated for December manager of the month for his side's run of results, said the watching TV cameras should focus on the players who have moved Wanderers off the foot of the table instead of himself.

He said: "It's like people were saying about the Dagenham game, is this the comparison of what we were and what we are now? I'll have to say no, it's not a big thing for me.

"Hopefully the last 12 results have showcased what we can do. It doesn't have to be on telly, I like the word of mouth thing and let the points in the table do the talking more than anything. That's the showcasing that I like.

"Some of those boys might not have played on Sky before. I'm sure they'll be up for that and it will be a new experience, but an experience they'll have to get used to in football.

"I'm lucky enough to have played on Sky a few times and had the TV coverage and it's great, but for me it's just going to be another game, another chance to get three points and another chance to move further away from the bottom of the table. That's my priority and that's what I'll be drumming into the staff and the boys this week.

"Nobody's really mentioned the TV thing. You do get them now and again, more so in the top divisions but at the bottom it's nice to get one and it would be nice to showcase ourselves on the telly.

"But nobody's been mentioning the Gillingham game, it's just another game and I keep the lads on the floor with that."

The Wanderers boss was in attendance at Priestfield on Tuesday night to see the Gills move back to the summit of the division with a 2-0 win over fellow high fliers Northampton.

Martin Allen's men impressed when they visited Adams Park in August and Ainsworth admitted: "We are going to have to be at our best to get anything from Gillingham but the lads aren't worrying about it.

"I thought we did well against them. I think it was a set play, if I remember rightly, they undid us with. We are a new Wycombe now, a new regime, and the work ethic's different. We'll hopefully be able to give them an even better game."

He added: "I know what Martin Allen will get his team to do. He's chopped and changed his team quite a bit. He's got a big squad and he's had a lot of money to spend this year. He's used it wisely and it's paid dividends for him because they are up at the top.

"I don't think we could predict his team but as long as we have every eventuality covered we'll be OK."
