Winfield calls for return of promotion winning spirit

SKIPPER Dave Winfield said Blues would have stayed up last season if the players had produced the same performance levels as they had while winning promotion.

The central defender admitted he was disappointed with his own form last season as Wanderers suffered an instant relegation back to League Two.

And he's called on his team mates to reproduce the form they were capable of during their promotion season two years ago.

He said: "Last year we were in a league that was a good league. There were good clubs in there and it was difficult. I don't really think we applied ourselves the way we could have done.

"I know there's plenty of players here from last year's squad that didn't feel like they hit the form that they hit the season before, and if they had have done we would have stayed up, guaranteed. I can class myself as one of those players.

"This year it's different. We are back in a league we know we can do well in. We've proved how good we can be in the league - we want to go on and do it now."
