Russell Slade's side were well below par at Yeovil Town: Simon O'Connor
Where do I start? To be honest, we just weren’t at the races at Huish Park and Yeovil coped much better with the conditions.
No excuses can be made for the poor state of the pitch, but their more direct tactics were spot on and I was disappointed we didn’t match them as the surface was not conducive to a passing style of football.
On too many occasions we were caught out – especially in defence – and rarely troubled their back five – which has conceded goals as of late and only a week ago had their manager’s words ringing in their ears after a defeat at Bournemouth.
A week is a long time in football, and obviously Yeovil’s players gave the ideal response with two wins in two.
However, I can’t remember seeing us concede three goals at Huish Park; so, it was disappointing that we couldn’t get another winning run going and I just hope this reverse isn’t a precursor to another bad spell this season.
But, positives can come from negatives and at least we can go to Hull on Saturday with nothing to lose. And, I am sure the players will want to make amends for the 150 fans who made the long New Year’s Day trip to Somerset.
