Addicks boss philosophical on inevitable transfer speculation
CHRIS Powell accepts his star players may well attract transfer attention next month but is adamant nobody will be going at knockdown prices.
Chris Solly was linked with a move away in the summer and continues to impress at The Valley, form which could potentially see his name banded about again during the inevitable January transfer rumour frenzy.
Powell understands speculation is part and parcel of the modern day game and acknowledges there is nothing he can do to stop his star names being linked elsewhere.
“We are in speculation season now,” the Addicks boss said.
“The agents will be working overtime to get their players linked with clubs.
“I can’t prevent that, it is part of football.
“It is always like that when the window is shut and then opens.
“People can look at one or two of my players and I can’t stop that happening.
“I have to be mindful of it, as I have some good players here.”
Bolton and West Ham were rumoured to be after Solly in the summer and more clubs may well be added to the list now.
But even if bids are made in the upcoming transfer window, Powell is adamant his stars will not be sold unless it is for big money.
He said: “I can try and stop people taking players from here for ludicrous bids.
“I hope they don’t.
“We don’t want their heads turned by people putting in bids that wouldn’t even buy one of their legs, let alone all of them.
“I want these players to stay and continue their education here.
“We will deal with it in the right way.”
