Bromley 1-3 Farnborough

BROMLEY’S poor home league record continued at Hayes Lane on Saturday when Farnborough comprehensively completed the double over their hosts.
Farnborough dictated play from the start and their speedy front-runners caused all sorts of problems for the Lillywhites.
Bromley’s lack of quality in distribution and positional play did not help matters either.
Home keeper Joe Welch blocked a shot in the opening minute and was called in to action on two more occasions in the early exchanges.
Sanchez Ming made a timely tackle to deny Nic Ciardini at the expense of a corner, from which Alan Inns headed wide.
Liam Harwood cut out a dangerous looking cross, before Ciardini raced through a static defence only to be denied by the on-rushing Welch for another corner.
Marlon Patterson headed the delivery away for another corner and this time full-back Josh Huggins had a free header at the far post to put Farnborough in front on 11 minutes.
The visitors continued to press forward and Welch, under pressure from Connolly, punched clear Dan Bennett’s cross.
Bromley’s first attack came on 20 minutes when Danny Waldren’s cross was knocked down by Soloman Taiwo to Ali Fuseini, whose shot through a crowd of players was just wide of the post.
Two minutes later Waldren’s 25-yard drive had Farnborough’s keeper Craig Bradshaw diving full length to make the save before Joe Pigott shot wide with only Bradshaw to beat.
Louie Theophanous had a goal disallowed for offside before Farnborough increased their lead on 29 minutes as Ciardini ghosted in on the blind side to stab home from close range following slack marking from another corner.
And the visitors might have gone further ahead three minutes later had Welch not slapped away Huggins’ close range effort from off the line.
Taiwo saw his low shot saved before Fuseini and Pigott exchanged passes to put Theophanous in on goal, but his touch was too heavy and Bradshaw collected.
Bromley went further behind just before the hour when Dave Tarpey ran through unchallenged to hammer home a firm volley past Welch.
The hosts were given a glimmer of hope as they reduced the arrears on 63 minutes.
Substitute Tony Finn’s left wing cross caused confusion in the Farnborough six yard box and Fuseini eventually put the ball over the line for his second goal in consecutive games.
Pierre Joseph-Dubois hit the post with a header on 66 minutes from Pigott’s knockdown and Theophanous shot wildly over the bar from 10 yards moments later.
A great reaction save from Bradshaw denied Theophanous and the visiting keeper was in the right place at the right time to deflect Joseph-Dubois’ effort over the bar two minutes later from Patterson’s cross.
Connolly went close for Farnborough in the closing stages, while in time added on Medi Abalimba shot tamely at Welch.
Bromley now sit just one place above the relegation zone and take a break from their league campaign this Saturday with a home FA Trophy tie against Kidderminster Harriers (3pm).
