Watford’s head of medical Marco Cesarini has confirmed that Almen Abdi has dislocated his shoulder, but was keen to emphasise that the midfielder won’t be out for too long.

The Swiss international fell awkwardly on his shoulder at Leeds on Saturday after scoring the second goal in the 6-1 win and was withdrawn from the action on a stretcher as a result.

“Almen’s having a scan today (Wednesday), but we’re confident the injury won’t mean a lengthy absence,” Cesarini told Watford’s official website.

Cesarini also provided further updates on other members of the Hornets squad who are currently sidelined.

Captain John Eustace is back at London Colney as he works his way back to fitness following a back operation.

Defender Nyron Nosworthy will see a specialist in the near future as he continues his rehab following a hamstring problem.

Prince Buaben, also out with a hamstring problem, continues his own rehabilitation and has now begun jogging.

Brazilian defender Neuton has also begun jogging on grass after turning his ankle in training, while another hamstring injury victim, Fitz Hall, returned to first-team training today after missing the last two games.

Ross Jenkins continues to make steady progress following a hip injury but Alex Geijo is not thought to be a doubt after complaining of a sore hamstring following Saturday’s win.

One game out is "too long" for our most important outfield player. Hope he's back on the pitch asap.

We need to keep continuity up front, so stick with Vydra and Geijo.

Hopefully Abdi will only be out for a couple of games, giving someone else an opportunity to see what they can do.

Alot of key players out at present (and Ross Jenkins), I hope Abdi is back in 2-3 weeks as he will be missed along with Nosey and Fitz as we are a bit thin on the ground at the back.

I wonder if we have considered a loanee or two?

Yep for me Vydra and Geijo should start the next game! I think there qualities can compliment each of them to provide an exceptional front pairing!
We will miss Abdi as he is quality, the decision Zola has is what 5 he puts across the middle? Maybe Cassetti, Murray, Hogg, Bottachino, Chaloboah? With Hoban, Ekstrand, Doyley at the back?
Maybe subs: Bond, Deeney, Forestieri, Smith, Franchone, Anya, Yeates?

Good side especially when there's no Eustace, Bauban, Mungi Bai, Neuton and Nosworthy!
I really think if we can keep within touching distance of the current top 6 and come January when hopefully we have a fully fit squad just maybe this could be a real automatic promotion push!

Does 'returned to first-team training today' mean Hall is available on Saturday?

Bottachino ahead of FF, we have seen little of him so far, so would not agree on that one. I would like to see us take the game to Wolves and have FF, Vydra and Geijo on the pitch together #lightening

Yeats for Abdi , with Hogg returning to starting eleven.
Hall for Ekstrand
Anya ahead of Pudil

IMO

You forgot Pudil! He will probably go back in the side. Would like to see Zola gamble again, put Forestieri in central midfield with Vydra and Geigo or Deeney upfront.
Hoban, Ekstrand, Doyley
Pudil, Chabolah, Forestieri, Hogg, Cassetti
Vydra, Deeney

I love the fact our squad has a lot of strength in depth, we have quite a few who can cover for abdi, we may miss his goals come Saturday though. Would like to see anya in for casetti if pudil is back again. Got a feeling hey ho won't be fit enough so prob be ff and deeney starting as vydra is plating tonight for the Czech republic

Alexander Hilcroft says...

Almunia; Doyley, Hoban, Hall; Cassetti, Pudil, Chalobah, Murray, Hogg; FF, Deeney (or Vydra if he doesn't play full 90 tonight for Czechs)

Just a thought! Pudil more central. allowing Anya to stay wide left

I think Eustace might be available for half a game however I suspect FF, Giejo or Pudil could all fill in for Abdi without too many problems.

Don't you thnk it's great to have all these different permutations and selection problems? At last things are falling nicely into place. Hopefully another good performance on Saturday and the possibility of 3 points. Good to see and hear the media are talking positively about the Hornets. One of the plusses for me is walking to the paper shop on a Sunday morning after a victory.

Sorry forgot Pudils ban was reduced oops! Yeah I would love to see Vydra, Geijo, Forestieri all start but got a feeling Zola won't play all three from the start! He is Italian you know... Not Spannish! Lol

Abdi has been our best / most consistent player to date and will be sorely missed, however good to hear injury is not likely to be too lengthy.

Re Saturday, Wolves still have quite a strong side and will pose a threat going forward. Therefore, I expect Pudil to return on left (can't play him in centre midfield too one-footed) with Yeates or Hogg replacing Abdi and plenty of fire-power on the bench whoever starts with Vydra up front..

I agree with you that Abdi has been our best player this season.
I would like to see Hogg replace him rather than Yeates as he is more combatative which we will need against Wolves.
