Ainsworth fears defeat is dent to his chances
CARETAKER boss Gareth Ainsworth felt defeat to Oxford has dented his chances of being given the manager's job on a full-time basis.
Saturday's derby defeat means Blues have taken one point from a possible nine after a three match winning streak appeared to have turned their fortunes around.
Wanderers' joint chairman Don Woodward told the Bucks Free Press last week Ainsworth would be given more time to make his mark, and the temporary manager is still optimistic he's done enough to be handed the reins.
There's been a noticeable upturn in performance from the Blues players since Ainsworth was handed control but he said after the 3-1 loss to Oxford: "It's probably a dent today in what's been quite a good start for me - losing one in six up to today.
"Things were looking good and we were pretty confident. Today is a whack on my CV."
Wanderers turned over League One Portsmouth early in Ainsworth's stewardship and they have another crack at higher graded opposition at the weekend when they travel to Crewe Alexandra in the first round of the FA Cup.
Ainsworth said: "We'll try and turn it round next week and another giant killing won't do me any harm."
