FA reduce suspension of Watford defender Daniel Pudil after support of Cardiff City

Picture: Action Images Picture: Action Images

Watford defender Daniel Pudil’s three-game suspension following his red card against Cardiff City has been reduced to one match following a successful appeal.

Pudil received a three-game ban for violent conduct after an off-the-ball clash with Craig Noone but Watford appealed the severity of the punishment to the FA with the help of video footage provided by Cardiff City and a statement from Noone.

We understand the Hornets argued that the charge of violent conduct, and therefore the three-game ban, was too harsh as they believed that whilst Pudil may have made contact with Noone’s face, there was no violence involved.

Pudil, who was signed on loan from Granada in the summer, will be suspended for tomorrow’s game with Blackburn Rovers.

Good !! Once again it shows within the last few weeks inept officals so they will have to start looking at themselves now. Well done WFC.

The referees should be made an example off, for their poor decisions which have altered the flow of games against us!

We have been playing well prior to sending off in games, then has subjected to losses when we've been ahead! Are referees against us, certainly feels like it!

We should be higher up the league but these muppets in black have spoilt results this season, & recent seasons too!

Pathetic!

This plays right into Cardiffs hands so it's a real shame Noone will not be disciplined for his part in getting Pudil sent off and for that matter those imaginary card wavers that were so intent on seeing our 17 year old loanee dismissed.

Exactly. Noone conned the officials, and essentially cost us 3 points. Where's his punishment?

When has the way the FA deal with disciplinary action ever been fair? They are so far up their own backsides they simply do not live in the real world. We have witnessed referees spoiling games for 3-4 seasons now - not refereeing for the good of the game or the paying public. When will these iditos get it though their thick heads this is entertainment and...they have a duty to the fans and paying public to keep it at 11 v 11 unless the situation is "beyond ALL resonable doubt". But that's not the way these fools see it unfortunately.

They will wonder what happened when fans desert the game because of this issue that is now effecting far too many games - most of them ours!

Rant over.

Now I accept that supporters are going to be completely one eyed when it comes to their team, but, as a Cardiff fan, I cannot let rubbish like this go unchallenged.

As far as Pudil goes, he still has a suspension to serve, so although it's been reduced, the appeal panel must have thought what happened merited some degree of punishment. Do you seriously believe the Cardiff player who spoke up on his behalf should be punished?

As for your poor 17 year old loanee, the highlights package of the game (which I presume you can watch on Watford's official site shows that he lunged in with studs raised against Whittingham - he was lucky not to get a straight red instead of a yellow and our best player was lucky to escape without a serious injury.

The pictures also show that, having already been booked, Cassetti took out Bellamy in the penalty area with a challenge that has put him out for up to two months - again, the Watford player was lucky to stay on the pitch and not concede a penalty.

Let's not forget either the poor challenge by Hogg on Craig Conway last Easter Monday which put him out of the game for months - it's little wonder that a lot of Cardiff fans answer "Watford" when asked who are the biggest bunch of cloggers in the Championship.

Right before you all start going on the referee did this bandwagon, I dont see many of you disagreeing if it had happened the other way around.

Take note that the card was not rescinded. It was decided that the level of contact was not sufficient to warrant a 3 match ban. Law 12 states the player is shown the red card for violent conduct. They dont make the laws they just enforce them... I didnt see the match but usually there is a straightforward reason that the referee takes the actions that they do. I say usually, there is always the exception to the rule.

Pleasing to see common sense prevails, but of course it is of no consequence because we have lost 3 points where we might have had all three or at least a share of the spoils. When I took my referees course(in the 1970s) we were told to stop and think before we issued a caution, not necessarily to stop a bad decision, but to avoid all the paperwork that it would entail. Over the years it seems that refrees are intent on putting themselves in the spotllght and trying to gain "favour" from the powers that be. But also todays players try to get their fellow professionals cautioned. How often to you hear players yelp in pain when they are tackled and writhe around in agony signaling to the bench that they need urgent attention, only to jump to their feet and run off like a young gazelle, and the problem is the referees and linesman(for that's what they are) are buying it! This is something that has crept into our game and needs sorting out, not only from the FA, the referees but the managers as well. The old adage "cheats never prosper" is laughable! Sorry about the rant but I needed to get this off my chest.

And yes, I am a Watford supporter too, but I can see both sides. I agree tobw81 to some extent too. I dont believe that most of the challenges are deliberately intended to hurt the opposition, that doesn't usually come into the thoughts of players, they dont have that capacity most of the time :P

It's only right Pudil had his suspension reduced! For Noone not being disciplined...not going there as I will cause the website to crash!

I am going to join in with the comments and say that at times the standard of officiating I have witnessed this year has been "embarrassing".

The controversial decisions going against us in my opinion are not the referee's making human errors, but more of a competency issue and poor judgement to officiate at this level.

We argued successfully on the violent conduct aspect of Pudil's, the poor decision of Vydra's..both has been successful.

Based on these two examples...its evident, the standard at times in this league are poor, simply not good enough, and its costing us points!

Talk about myopic! Bellamy deliberately turned into Cassetti and tried his best to claim a penalty, not that I would wish it on anyone but if he injured himself there is a tang of poetic justice about it. Cheboah's tackle was just mistimed - the ball was there to be got and he somehow missed it. He did apologise and he got his deserved yellow, don't make it out to be something it wasn't. Before we went down to nine us "cloggers" still outplayed you on tuesday.... Premiership? I don't think so.

Yes, cloggers. Look, I'm,56 years old and have long since left behind the need to indulge in cheap point scoring with other teams supporters.

I try to be fair with what I say and, therefore, I'll state that Watford were one of the best teams to visit Cardiff in 10/11 (it was after this game that Malky Mackay accused us of systematically kicking Buckley not after you thrashed us 4-1 three weeks earlier and I reckon he was right), you were well worth your point at our place last season and we wouldn't have won on Tuesday if it had stayed eleven v eleven - I'd also say that your side might be a decent bet for a Play Off spot..

However, last season you were very physical and one of our players ended up with a serious injury after a poor tackle by one of your players, while on Tuesday there was a cynicism to go with the physical stuff.

We played Leeds about six weeks ago and they were a bunch of angels compared to your team. Maybe the supporters at Cardiff City Stadium aren't getting a true picture of what your team are really like or maybe there's a legacy from the way we have taken so many staff from you (I can understand any annoyance at that), but Watford are, by some distance, the dirtiest side I've seen Cardiff play in 2012.

One last thing, the last time we didn't pay our tax bill was two and a half years ago.

Calling the present Watford team cloggers is juvenile and wind up speak!

Watford with 11 men were winning It was likely we would have got the three points, added to that was the recent Middlesbrough game who were played off the park and we were winning 1-0 until our Czech international striker the excellent Matej Vydra was sent off with a straight Red Card, leaving us with 10 men for half the game losing 2-1.

Vydra's card was rescinded down to referee error. In effect very recently we have lost six points down to dubious red cards and bad refereeing three good players for two games. Had this not happened Watford would be near top now? Never mind we are patient we know the fantastic potential of our Watford team and our excellent manager Zola.

The championship has many good teams the handicap of losing two players was just too much in an away game we were winning 1-0 and containing Cardiff with around 25 mins to go. 10 outfield players against our 8 especially away was just too much even then it took Cardiff until the 91st minute to win the game and Watford still created chances.

Admit it had the roles been reversed and Cardiff were playing away with only 8 outfield players against a full Watford team and playing as well as Watford did you and all your supporters would have been immensely proud of your team.

Would it hurt so much to concede this as you say Watford are the one eyed fans? You can’t have it both ways!

Your manager and players know they had a hell of a game and were very lucky to get the result.

At Cardiff you have about 10 ex Watford staff and players staff and players who previously and recently worked and played at Watford. We don't mind we doubt whether any of those ex-players would get into our present team.

I am genuinely sorry you have lost Bellamy for three months however, he has been very injury prone throughout his entire career with long layoffs it’s very harsh to blame Watford.

The season has a long way to go, we look forward to seeing our ex manager with his ex-Watford staff and half your team of ex Watford players in the return match at Watford. If we are lucky enough to keep 11 or even 10 players on the field, you just might see something special and it won't be clogging!
