FOOTBALL: Second silverware in a week for Cockfosters
Jamie Brandon struck the winner with just 30 seconds remaining
Jamie Brandon struck the winner with just 30 seconds remaining

JAMIE BRANDON struck with almost the final kick of the game to give Cockfosters a 2-1 victory over Colney Heath in the final of the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Reserve Challenge Trophy last night.

Colney Heath could have reason to feel aggrieved after playing a major part in a thrilling match at Brimsdown's Goldsdown Road ground to which either side could lay claim to winning.

They bossed the opening half hour but fell behind on 33 minutes when the predatory Brandon struck.

Cockfosters then defended resolutely to keep their St Albans-based opponents at bay until the 84th minute when D Corniche found an equaliser.

With the game set to go to extra time, Brandon connected sweetly with Ben Andreos' free-kick and volleyed home a spectacular winner.

It is the second silverware in a week for the Chalk Lane outfit after the first team won the Potters Bar Charity Cup last Friday.
