GRAVESEND RFC Hockey Club’s women’s first team defeated Tunbridge Wells’ second string 2-1 on Saturday.
Struggling to field a side due to injuries and illness, Gravesend only had 11 available players and found themselves very much under pressure during the first half.
Despite this, it took until early in the second half for Tunbridge to take the lead, although Gravesend replied immediately when Theresa Waight received possession on the 25m line and took it into the circle before cleverly placing her shot beyond the keeper.
Gravesend continued to build upon this and were getting more and more possession and were awarded several penalty corners.
This eventually paid off when Odette Kelham converted a penalty corner with a well-struck and accurate shot off the post for what proved to be the winning goal.
