A DRAMATIC end to the L&SC Shield saw the holders Blackheath & Greenwich knocked out by the last bowl of the match.
With the last bowl to be played by Met Police skip Gary Brock, B&G led by one shot after the away rinks had lost by 20 shots.
Brock fired at the head, removing B&G’s shot bowl for a one shot victory.
The previous day saw B&G eliminated from the Bowls England double fours after an under-par performance at Sidcup. They also went down 5-1 in the NWK League to West Beckenham, losing overall by a single shot.
Brighter news came as Paul Field, Terry Heppell and Andy Thomson progressed to the quarter-finals in the county triples after defeating Bromley’s John Bown, John Reeve and Chris Perkins 25-5.
B&G followed this by with a 5-0 win in the Top Club against Baker Bexford.
In the L&SC single rink, club captain Field led his rink to a 22-13 win against Alan Thompson (Met Police), but Wally Goodwin lost the Lonsdale singles 21-17 to John Russell (Sidcup).
B&G rounded of the week with a 4-0 win in the Private Clubs League over Eltham Conservatives.
