WASPS hope to boost capacity inside Adams Park next season after completing a number of security measures at the back end of last season.
The club have now applied for a safety certificate which would allow them to pack in 10,500 fans for home games.
The physical capacity of Adams Park is near to 10,700, but safety restrictions mean Wasps can’t fill it completely.
Chief executive Tony Copsey said: “It’s not in the bag but we are hopeful we’ll get an increase in our capacity. We’ve been working with the safety advisory group on ground safety and traffic management systems so we’re hoping that will be made official before the start of the season.”
The key aspect has been the speed of clearing the car park after games and Copsey says, through trial and error a system is now in place that police, fire brigade and council officials are satisfied with.
He said: “In the old days it took you absolutely ages to get away from Adams Park, we’ve looked at that very carefully and how we control the road into Adams Park and the safety groups have recognised that.”
