WASPS believe they have arsenal to rectify last season’s anaemic try-count.

They managed just 33 compared to the 67 they plundered the year before, when they won the title, but director of rugby Tony Hanks says he has the players in place to make up for that.

He said: “We’re disappointed in the number of tries we didn’t score last season. We created a lot of opportunities in the second half of the season and were guilty of not taking those chances.

“But I’m comfortable with the firepower we’ve got here.

“David [Lemi] has the ability to score from nothing, and it Danny [Cipriani], Joe [Simpson], Tom [Varndell] and Paul [Sackey] we’ve got players who can score from a long way out. We’ve definitely got the ability to score tries.”
