Sutton's Hodgson key man in Heineken Cup clash
Key man: Paul Hodgson. Mark Greenwood
Key man: Paul Hodgson. Mark Greenwood

Former England and Harlequins centre Will Greenwood has warned Ewell rugby star Paul Hodgson to be on top of his game if London Irish are to reach the Heineken Cup final this weekend.

The 26-year-old former Sutton & Epsom youngster, who celebrates his birthday today, made a try-saving tackle to help the Exiles beat Perpignan in the quarter-finals on April 5.

He is set to line-up in the semi-finals against three-times European Cup winners Toulouse at Twickenham on Saturday in the biggest game in Irish's history.

And Greenwood, now an ambassador for cup sponsors Heineken, believes fledgling England international Hodgson's battle with All Black veteran Byron Kelleher could be one of the key clashes.

"The Exiles are two games away from lifting the Heineken Cup and you can be damn sure they will be up for it," he said.

"Throughout both sides there are a series of international match ups between truly class players at the absolute top of their game.

"Kelleher, who has so often grabbed a game by the scruff of the neck, will be closely monitored by the pocket rocket of Hodgson.

"And the latter will once again need to punch above his body weight if Irish are to prevail."
