Brian McDermott has admitted Henry Paul's departure would be a blow to Harlequins RL after the Kiwi magician announced his intention to switch codes to join Leeds.
After stalling on the offer of a new contract at the Stoop, the 34-year-old surprisingly opted instead to commit his future to the Yorkshire club, recently relegated to National League One.
And McDermott agreed Paul's departure at the end of the current Super League season would leave a hole to fill.
He said: "What Henry has been doing for us this season has been huge.
"We are going to be losing an immense character from our dressing room, and all the experience he brings on and off the pitch.
"But I am also very excited by the opportunity it will give our youngsters.

"As one door closes on the Quins career of Henry Paul, another door of opportunity opens for someone like Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook or Michael Worrincy."
Paul revealed it had not been an easy decision to quit.
But the former Wigan and Bradford Bulls star confessed the temptation had proved too great, having previously strutted his rugby union stuff with Gloucester.
Paul said: "I always said it was my intention to finish playing rugby league this summer and, by going back home, it is a great way to finish my career.
"I am excited about returning to Yorkshire and to Leeds."
Paul and McDermott will switch attention back to on-field matters on Saturday, when Quins make the trip north to face Wakefield.
