Bring the fear to Priory Lane
Winning kick: Richard Mahony's last-gasp penalty David Whittam
Winning kick: Richard Mahony's last-gasp penalty David Whittam

Coach Chris Kibble has called on Rosslyn Park to turn Priory Lane into a venue opponents fear to tread next season after Park ended their home campaign with a win.

Richard Mahony's last-gasp penalty earned a battling 19-18 win over visitors Havant in appalling conditions as Rosslyn stretched their current run to five wins from six games.

"If we keep progressing we can turn the Rock into a fortress next season," said Kibble. "You should always have that mentality and we are good enough to do that."

In a rain-lashed encounter Park battled back from a nine point deficit with just 10 minutes to play to claim victory thanks to a John Underwood try and Mahony's boot.

"The difference now is we have a lot more character and a willingness to persevere," added Kibble.

"Earlier in the season, we would have lost that game.

"It is a job in progress and progress I am really pleased about.

"We never really got going with any tempo but it was very slippery and not easy."

After securing a mid-table finish in an injury-ravaged season, Kibble has turned his attention to next season.

"We are learning all the time and this will set us up well for next season," added Kibble.

"We have lost too many narrow games and that is about mental toughness and hanging in like we did today.

"We are learning how to finish off games and with a good summer we can come on really strong next year."

Remaining fixture: April 19 Dings Crusaders (a).
