Harlequins 0, Sale 45
HARLEQUINS boss Mark Evans admitted that relegation was now a major threat after his side's six-match winning home league run was shattered on Saturday as it left them only six points off the bottom of the Premiership (writes RORY GREG).
It raised questions about whether Evans may step down as coach or whether he will get rid of some of his so called stars as he admitted "this might affect my relationship with the players."
The angry Evans described it as his worst day ever' in charge and warned "That was terrible - if we continue to play like that we will go down. We won't win another game this season on that showing."
Quins have not won away for nearly two years and five of their remaining seven games are away!
England hopeful Charlie Hodgson scored 23 points for Sale, starting with a first minute penalty, and he then converted a try by Chris Jones, who stormed past Luger, playing at full-back in place of the injured Williams.
A second Hodgson penalty made it 13-0 at the interval. Second-half scorers for Sale were: tries - Bond, Cueto, Hodgson and Hanley; cons - Hodgson 2, Walshe; pen - Hodgson 2.
Veteran prop Jason Leonard, who is due to win his 100th cap for England against France at Twickenham this Saturday (4pm), finished up hooking in the scrum and throwing into the line-outs.
Harlequins' next match is not until March when they face basement buddies Bristol. It is a do or die game, but skipper Andre Vos declared: "We have to dig deep. We owe it to ourselves, to the fans and to Mark Evans."
Harlequins: Luger, Jewell, Greenwood, Satala, Moore, Burke, Bemand (Powell, 55mins), Starr, Fuga (Serriff, 55), Leonard, Davison (Evans, 55), A. Codling (S. Codling, 55), Tiatia, Vos (capt), Diprose (Cardinali, 66).
