Harlequin Amateurs 34 Swifts 7
New players came to the fore for Harlequin Amateurs in the first match of the season against Sutton and Epsom's 3rd team, the Swifts, with the Amateurs winning the good-natured game 34 7.
Three new players scored points on their debut. Winger Colin Crowther scored two tries, Flanker Matt Cross scored once and Fly Half Tim Cairns converted twice.
Seasoned players Matt Jones, Kwasi Appah and James Haydon also ran in tries before Sutton and Epsom made a final strong charge over the tryline and converted for seven points just before the final whistle.
The Amateur 1st XV will be competing in a league for the first time since their re-emergence in 2000 having been accepted into the Herts/Middlesex 3 South league. They will also enter the Middlesex Cup again.
The first league game is against London Tribes on Saturday at the Richmond Athletic Ground (3.00pm).
