Times cup games will raise curtain for Harlequins

The Stoop Memorial Ground will be packed with action this Saturday (September 14th). Not only will it host NEC Harlequins vital game in the Zurich Premiership against Leeds Tykes (kick-off 3pm) but it will also see the start of the Richmond and Twickenham Times Cup.
The Times Cup is the club's matchday curtain raiser competition over the 2002/03 season, which is organised by Quins Community Development Team. More than 30 local rugby clubs, all of whom are associated to Quins, will be competing for the cup.
The tournament is being expanded this season, with boys and girls from Under 9 and Under 10 age groups competing for the coveted title along with their counterparts from Under 7 and Under 8 age groups, all from Quins associate clubs.
With this expansion of the competition, Quins hope to attract around 8,000 spectators to the Stoop Memorial Ground for their home matches throughout the course of the year.
Kicking off the tournament this Saturday are teams from Teddington, Effingham and Leatherhead, KCS Old Boys and Cobham rugby clubs.
The final of the cup will be staged prior to Quins Zurich Premiership game against Leicester Tigers on Saturday April 19th.
We are delighted that the Richmond & Twickenham Times have opted to sponsor the tournament, as we believe it will enhance its reputation and awareness, and help strengthen relationships with our associate clubs," said Tony Copsey, NEC Harlequins Managing Director.
RFU qualified referees officiate the touch rugby matches and the winners of each of the pool matches perform a lap of honour at half-time of the Quins fixture taking place that afternoon.
This Saturday (September 14th), Quins play Leeds Tykes in the Zurich Premiership, kick-off 3pm - tickets for this game can be purchased by calling the club ticketline on 0871 871 8877.
Apart from the matchday Curtain Raiser competition, Quins Community Development Team also run Coaching Clinics for clubs and Coaching Master Classes, which are extremely popular and always booked up well in advance.
A roundup of results from all matches played in the Richmond and Twickenham Times Cup will be available in the Newsquest Media Group newspapers in the local area, throughout the season.
