West Ham duo Joao Mario and Cheikhou Kouyate will be heading out to Russia next month, having been named in Portugal and Senegal’s World Cup squads.

Mario, who spent the second half of the campaign on loan from Inter Milan at the London Stadium, has been named in the Portugal squad alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Joao Moutinho. Former West Ham defender Jose Fonte, who now plays for Dalian Yifang in the Chinese Super League, has also been called up.

Mario notched two goals in 14 appearances for the Hammers during his loan spell with the club and has been linked with a permanent move to the London Stadium this summer.

Meanwhile, fellow West Ham midfielder Kouyate has been named in Senegal’s World Cup squad alongside Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and former Hammer Diafra Sakho.

Kouyate, who captains Senegal, scored two goals in 37 appearances for the Hammers this season and will be hoping to help the Lions progress out of Group H in their first appearance at a World Cup for 16 years.
