Cray Wanderers got their Bostik South East season off to a flying start with an impressive 3-0 win at Greenwich Borough on Saturday.  This was the first opening day win for Cray for ten seasons with Michael Power starting where he left off last season with a brace of goals in each half, the first from a coolly taken penalty with the second a typical piece of class finishing in the 64th minute.  A minute later another impressive performer on the day, Jerome Federico tucked away a tidy finish to confirm the victory against a new look Greenwich side managed by ex Wand Luke Medley.

Tony Russell’s team were very impressive in the first half and came close to scoring several times in the opening half.  Firstly Federico got through down the right but his shot was saved by Jordan Carey.  Then Tom Phipp headed over from a Karl Dent left wing corner.

A cross-shot from Dent just missed the onrushing Federico who couldn’t quite get a touch to turn the ball into the net.  This was followed by Michael Power’s effort coming back off the crossbar.

The opening goal came in the 36th minute from the penalty spot when Federico was brought down by Connor Peters and Power slotted home a very confident penalty.

Before half time Greenwich threatened and Solomon Taiwo’s free kick was turned over well by Nick Blue.

In the second half Power fired just wide from 30 yards before Greenwich came close to levelling when De’Juane Taylor-Crossdale was denied by a fine blocked save from Blue.

Dent curled a free kick wide but a second goal for Cray was looking on the cards and it arrived in the 64th minute when the impressive Bradley Pritchard found Power down the middle who from the edge of the area tucked home a superb finish wide of Carey into the bottom left corner for his 102nd career goal for Cray.

A minute later it was 3-0 when from similar position Federico burst through and with Carey coming to meet him rolled the ball past him into the net for a wonderful finish.

Cray were able to see out the game and get their season off to the best possible start.  They are next in action on Wednesday, 15th August at home to Ramsgate in the Kent Senior Cup.  Then they are in league action at Hayes Lane on Sunday, 19th August against Whitstable Town.
