Not for the first time this season, Welling United rebounded from a disappointing home defeat with an excellent away result.

Their victory at Bognor Regis Town eased them into the play-off zone ready for the final quarter of a season push.

Manager Jamie Coyle was forced into making a change at the back and selected himself to replace the injured Jack Parkinson. He also chose to make a tactical change bringing in Jamie Philpot for Ryan Hall.

Things could hardly have started better and Welling went ahead in the fourth minute. Philpot sent Adam Coombes away and he shot past Dan Lincoln from the edge of the box.

In an attempt to make a quick response Richard Gilot let fly from twenty five yards and Bailey Vose was called upon to make a good save.

Jimmy Muitt then fired well over after a clearance was only half cleared.

At the other end, Callum Driver had a shot deflected wide, seemingly by a team-mate, but the referee surprised everyone by awarding Welling a corner that came to nothing.

Muitt had another opportunity on the right hand side of the penalty area but Vose beat his shot out.

Once more, Vose was called into action when pushing Ollie Pearce's shot around the post.

Referee Scott Jackson then failed to award Welling a blatant penalty when Philpot was pushed over when he burst into the penalty area but Welling soon doubled their lead.

Coombes split the defence with a superb cross-field pass and Philpot made no mistake with a fine finish.

Bradley Goldberg shot over as the Wings finished the half strongly and came even closer with an excellent header that drew a brilliant save out of Lincoln.

Another Muitt excellent chance just after the interval was thwarted when Vose was out quickly to narrow the angle and Muitt slotted his chance wide.

Philpot fired just wide from twenty yards before Vose was again called into action. Gilot's shot took a deflection but the Welling goalkeeper was down quickly and held on well.

Joe Healy created another opening for Goldberg but Lincoln kept his shot out with his legs.

Keaton Wood fired wide from long distance before Welling missed another good chance. Olumide Durojaiye picked out Goldberg and his cross found Coombes but in uncharacteristic style he sliced his left foot shot wide from close range.

His disappointment didn't last long, though. The excellent Jack Jebb fired in a powerful low cross that Lincoln was unable to hold and Coombes was on hand to stab home.

Ben Jefford fired wide from another superb Philpot pass then Coombes had a long range effort saved.

Just as Welling started looking at keeping a clean sheet, Bognor scored. Harvey Whyte's cross was deflected across the face of goal and substitute Ibra Sekajja finished at the far post.

Although disappointed at conceding it was not enough to stop Welling from preparing for their next game at Hungerford Town on the back of a good solid win.
