Cray Wanderers moved back up to seventh place in the Isthmian League South table despite being held to a 2-2 draw against mid-table Horsham at Hayes Lane.

The Wands who made a tremendous comeback from 0-2 down to beat Chipstead on Saturday made a cracking start to this game and came close to taking the lead through Danny Haynes and Lea Dawson but were denied by Horsham keeper, Josh Pelling.  Then Haynes fired wide and Sherwin Stanley headed over as Cray dominated the early exchanges.

Cray deservedly went in front in the 19th minute through Haynes fifteenth goal of the season when he smashed a tremendous strike from Dane Luchford right wing cross.

Horsham though levelled rather against the run of play in the 33rd minute through Ollie Gill’s low drive from the edge of the penalty area and were denied a second goal when Tom Lawley was foiled by a tremendous save by Cray debutante keeper Sam Roach.

Cray continued to create chances in the second half and Karl Dent fired wide from another Luchford cross and Sean Roberts was played through on a one-on-one but fired wide of goal.  Dent then clipped the top of the crossbar with a first time shot from Lee Prescott’s cutback.

Horsham though caught Cray on the break in the 73rd minute and took the lead when Gill set up Reece Batchelor who tucked home a tidy finish past Roach.

The Wands though fought back a minute later when a fine cross from Jey Siva out on the left was met by Haynes who powered a header past Pelling.

Cray exerted a lot of pressure in the last quarter of an hour but couldn’t claim a winner.  Horsham though came close when George Branford’s strike was tipped over by Roach.

Cray next travel to Molesey on Saturday looking to keep in contact with the playoff contenders..
