Paul Barry wants his Hampton & Richmond Borough side to kick their errors into touch – and hopes their bad fortune can be booted to a similar distance.

Barry and fellow joint manager Darren Powell had to make do without their entire back-line on Tuesday night as Lewes came from behind to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw at the Dripping Pan.

The suspension and injury-hit Beavers endured a galling first day of the season last Saturday, going down to Margate's last-minute winner as the Gate made it the worst possible opener.

One positive for the duo is the form of striker Charlie Moone, scorer of the club's two goals so far but Barry wants mistakes eradicated if a push for promotion is to be realised.

He said: “All things considered, we can't complain too much about Tuesday.

“We didn't have any of our back four and had to throw some people in at the deep end which obviously isn't ideal.

"I thought overall we defended well but if we want to win games at this level we can't keep making the errors we are, they’re killing us.

“We've got to learn how to keep the ball and defend a lead. In the two games we've scored the first goal but we've not been able to hang on.

"That's frustrating but when we have players back from suspension and injury, hopefully we'll stop all that.

“It's very bad luck not being able to play all of your main defenders so soon into the season but hopefully our luck will change on that score.”

The Beavers go to Bury Town this weekend, and host Wealdstone on Tuesday.
