West Ewell’s Duncan Tappy was a member of the Loose Cannons winning team that won the Celebrity Karting Challenge for the third time in four years last Friday.
The event, held at Birmingham’s NEC as part of the Autosport International show, is organised by racing legend David Brabham, primarily in aid of Malaria No More UK.
The 27 participating teams featured four professionals and two members of the public.
Tappy’s quartet of experienced racing drivers – former former team-mate Riki Christodoulou, Will Stevens, Paul Rees – were joined by Dave Fry and Shaun Traynor.
The public members set qualifying positions and the reigning champions started from 13th on the grid.
Tappy started the race – watched by around 1,000 people – and made his way through the pack to sixth by the end of the first lap.
By the end of his 15 minutes behind the wheel he was leading the race, but they dropped back again before Rees clinched victory on the final corner of the last lap.
Tappy, 25, said: “I really enjoyed the race again.
“It is a great event with so many drivers getting together pre-season and a good way to start the year with a bit of fun and a lot of competitive spirit on one track.
“Having a whopping 27 teams made for a brilliant, if slightly chaotic, race.
“It is in aid of a good cause and all the more enjoyable for winning it again.”
