Surbiton racing driver Mike Robinson claimed his second win of the 2014 Michelin Clio Cup Race Series at Oulton Park on Sunday to top the drivers’ standings after four rounds.
Robinson had qualified for the latest two rounds in pole position, but was pipped into second in the first race by then championship leader David Dickenson.
But the TCR driver, who started slowly from pole in the second race, managed
to sneak past the leader Tommy Ostgaard, with Dickenson forced out due to drive shaft failure.
“The first start was very chaotic and then I didn’t get the start I wanted from pole the second time, then I was disappointed when I saw the race had been cut to 10 minutes – I knew I had a lot of work to do and not a lot of time to do it,” said Robinson.
“Thankfully Tommy [Ostgaard] made a little mistake at the hairpin and I managed to put the car in there. I’m pleased with the win.”
The series heads to Donnington Park on May 31.
Clio Cup standings: 1. Mike Robinson, 94 points, 2. David Dickenson, 91 pts, 3. Paul Streather, 80 pts.
