Steve Orford has promised to make a big impression when he returns to competitive action later this month.

The amateur boxer from New Addington is making his ring comeback against giant Polish fighter Wojtek Wieczorek at the Effingham Park Hotel in West Sussex on April 28 in the Queensbury Boxing League.

Victory will see the 38-year-old, who has reunited with his former amateur mentor Will Gardner, reclaim the league’s vacant Southern Area Cruiserweight title.

Wieczorek landed his crack at the title by impressively beating Marc Beresford but, after watching that fight back on DVD, Orford is convinced he possesses the tools to beat his man convincingly.

“I watched his last fight on DVD and he’s got a good fast jab and is a lot taller than me,” he said.

“But he looks like he holds a lot and I think my unique style of fighting will cause him problems.

“I got great experience in the amateur ranks boxing for London against Ireland and I’ve always liked fighting guys that were taller than me.

“So I think this will be an exciting contest but I am 100 per cent confident I will come out of this on top and hopefully even get the stoppage if it comes.”

Also in action on the show is Addiscombe light middleweight Sonny Eady, who his making his league debut after two back-to-back amateur victories, against Daniel Humphreys.
