Week two of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance summer season and it’s looking good for the teams based at the club based at New Eltham, as all three teams have recorded victories for the second week running.

New Eltham Social Club and New Eltham Club remain first and second in Tier Three after winning their second game of the season this week.

Despite only picking up three points against new boys Lord Kitchener, New Eltham Social Club stay top but only by one frame.

They got off to the perfect start, whitewashing the first set, 5-0 but Lord Kitchener fought back and won the second set, 3-2 before New Eltham took the last set by the same score for an overall, 2-1 & 10-5 triumph.

New Eltham Club fared slightly better against newly formed Real Hustlers, taking all four points in a, 3-0 & 11-4 victory.

The damage was done in the first two sets, taking them both, 4-1 to secure the bonus point before the final set, which New Eltham Club went on to win, 3-2 to grab maximum points.

Jamie Phillips, Shane Burnett, Dan Fory and George Haydon all won two frames for the victors but Gary Mason went one better with an unbeaten hat-trick.

Happy Hustlers join the New Eltham teams on seven points but lie third in the table with less frames won, after winning their second match in a row this week.

Captain Angie Hobbs led from the front, winning all three frames in her team’s, 3-0 & 10-5 victory against new boys Red Barn and she was joined by Clare Stork, also unbeaten with three frame wins.

Academicals recovered from last week’s defeat with a, 3-0 & 10-5 triumph this week against Bexleyheath Working Mans Club.

They looked to Captain, Gary Mason for their inspiration, after he won all three of his frames, alongside debutant Tony Gear, who scored two out of three.

The other successful New Eltham team are New Eltham themselves and they are sitting second in SLKPA Tier Two East after squeezing a second successive, 2-1 & 8-7 victory with an under strength side.

They stole the first and last sets, 3-2 in a final frame decider, with Eltham Terrace Rack Pack taking the second by the same score.

As the score suggests it was a very tight game where many of the frames could have gone either way but all three of Barry Barham’s went his way for New Eltham, as did Fred O’Connor and Tony Frost’s for Rack Pack.

Above New Eltham are North Heath Social Club, who have scored maximum points from their two games so far.

They kicked off the match against CSC Mr’s & Miss Q’s with a, 4-1 win in the first set and they followed that up with, 3-2 triumphs in the next two for an overall, 3-0 & 10-5 victory.

James Coomber kept CSC in the match by winning both of his frames, whereas North Heath had Harry Lear and Tony Garrett to thank for the size of their victory, after they both scored unbeaten hat-tricks.

It was a bad night at the office for Bellegrove A, as they were comprehensively beaten, 3-0 & 12-3 by Royal Oak, who go third in the table after picking up their first win.

After taking the first set, 4-1 the result never looked in any doubt, despite Bellegrove coming close in the second set, with Royal Oak eventually taking it, 3-2 before whitewashing the final set.

There were a few unbeaten players for Royal Oak, with Phil Tworek and Paul Clements scoring two out of two for the second week in a row and this week they were joined by John Cochrane and Steve and Will Heather, with Will’s attained by two fluked blacks.

Bellegrove Captain, John Skuza says his team are still a little green but they will come good, as he believes in them and they will be buoyed by Pat Melia winning two out of three and young Jack Taylor recording another victory.

Rose Inn have risen to the top of SLKPA Tier Two West, after another large victory this week, resulting in maximum points so far this season.

The first set against Bellegrove Superstars was quite close, with Rose Inn just edging it, 3-2 but they pulled away in the second set whitewashing it, 5-0 to pick up the bonus point before the third set.

The final set went the same way as the first to give Rose Inn a, 3-0 & 11-4 triumph, sending Superstars to the bottom of the table.

Jack Wilson scored three out of three for Rose Inn to keep up his 100% record for the season so far and this week he was joined by Leighton Aston on a hat-trick.

It was a close match between Woolwich Wolfpack and Sharks, who in the end had too much bite, running out, 2-1 & 9-6 winners.

Sharks are now second in the table with the Wolfpack third and just behind them are Crayford Social Club Rugrats, who recorded their first win of the season against Fox & Hounds, which was even more impressive considering they only had four players.

The first set swung one way then the other, with Rugrats eventually taking it, 3-2 and they went on to win the second set by the same score, before Fox pulled one back in the final set, also by 3 frames to 2, making the final score, 2-1 & 8-7 in Rugrats favour.

Scott Shephard put in a captain’s performance, winning all three of his frames and he was joined by Mark Knevett with Fox’s Glen Ward also unbeaten on two frame wins.

Winning their second game in a row and hitting the top spot in the SLKPA Elite League are Eltham Terrace Club A.

They followed up their, 3-0 & 9-6 victory last week with a, 2-1 & 10-5 triumph this week against Allstars.

It was a night of total clearances, as Dan Heinink performed a dish from a dry break in the first set, on his way to an unbeaten hat-trick for the second week running, in the second set it was Tony Halpin who recorded a break and dish and finally George Hammond did the same in the last set.

As always it was a close battle between Hotshots and Hustlers Simply Lovleh, with Hotshots kicking off with the first two frames but Simply Lovleh turned that around, taking the last three frames of the set to win it, 3-2.

Simply Lovleh went on to win the next two frames for an overall, 5-2 lead but Hotshots dug deep and returned the compliment, taking the following three frames to tie the match at one all in sets and five all in frames.

Kevin Smith made it three out of three with a break and dish to put Simply Lovleh ahead, only for Tony Wilson to level the score.

George Covington nudged Simply Lovleh ahead again but Danny Kelliher made it seven all to send the match into a final frame decider.

Hotshots Captain, Neil Hall played Clive Black and it was Hall who held his nerve to score an unbeaten brace and give his side the, 2-1 & 8-7 victory, putting them second in the table.

Wilson and Kelliher both scored two out of three but man of the match has to go to Kevin Smith, who had a perfect night, scoring another break and dish to go with the one already mentioned in the third set as well as a dish from a dry break to give him a hat-trick for the second successive week.

Eltham Terrace Rovers were somewhat fortunate in their, 2-1 & 8-7 victory over Pickwick, after they went in off on three blacks.

Saying that Pickwick did well to come back from, 8-3 down to end up just one frame behind Rovers.

Joe Kane ended the night unbeaten on two frame wins but shot of the night went to Dave Jandu, who escaped from a snooker, coming off four cushions to pot the black.

Rovers sister side, Eltham Terrace Nuthouse also recorded a victory this week, against newly promoted Bellegrove Flyers.

Nuthouse took the first set, 4-1 but Flyers fought back, taking the second set, 3-2, so it was all to play for in the final set.

The first two frames of the final set were shared, meaning Nuthouse only needed one frame for the bonus point, which they got in the very next frame and they went on to take the set, 3-2 giving them an overall, 2-1 & 9-6 triumph.

The shining light for Flyers was debutant James Albert, who won both of his frames.

It was a great night for Craig Jones and Louis Wilbourne, who both scored three out of three, with Jones’ including a break and dish and Wilbourne’s a match turning shot, where he escaped from a total snooker to double his last yellow into the middle before doubling the black into the bottom corner.
