Enfield Town continued their upturn in fortunes with a 1-1 draw at promotion-chasing Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday.

Having ended a sequence of six straight defeats in all competitions with a 3-2 victory at Burgess Hill Town on Tuesday of last week, Andy Leese’s men made it four points in two games to move up to 14th in the Bostik Premier Divison.

An injury to loanee Taofiq Olomowewe and the unavailability of Mark Kirby forced the Towners boss to shuffle his pack in central defence. Mat Mitchel-King and Taylor McKenzie were partnered together, with Adam Martin replacing Mario Noto in the other switch to the starting XI from the win at Burgess Hill.

Reise Allassani had the early openings for the hosts, firing over the bar before he twisted and turned to create space for a shot that went narrowly wide.

The Towners’ first chance came when a defender played the ball straight to Liam Hope, who set up Ryan Blackman to fire wide of the target.

But the visitors’ cause was to be unsettled when McKenzie had to be replaced after 18 minutes due to feeling unwell.

Dulwich kept probing, with Mark Weatherstone heading wide after Mitchel-King had done well to clear an Allassani cross behind for a corner, before Enfield keeper Joe Wright had to move smartly to block after Nathan Ferguson had turned past Samir Bihmoutine.

Nyren Clunis fired over as Hamlet remained on top, although substitute Dan Rumens did head a corner into Preston Edwards’ gloves as the opening period ended goalless.

There was little of goalmouth significance after the break until Michael Onovwigun missed from closed range following a mass scramble from a corner.

Mickey Parcell produced a great tackle to deny Allassanni before a Clunis cross just eluded Ferguson at the back post.

Enfield almost made the breakthrough when a Blackman long throw was flicked on by Hope and Sam Youngs saw his header hit the bar before it was cleared.

The home side immediately countered, with Parcell stopping the rampaging Allassani in his tracks. But Dulwich were to make the most of the resultant free-kick as Ashley Carew beat Wright with a fine, low strike from 25 yards.

Enfield’s response to going behind was positive and within minutes of replacing Hope, Simon Thomas received a pass from Bihmoutine and squared for Youngs, who sent a dipping effort looping over Edwards from 20 yards to equalise.

Having been pegged back, Dulwich came closest to a late winner, with Ricky Hayles flashing a header narrowly wide while Wright did well to deal with a Clunis effort to secure the point.
