A home tie in the third qualifying round is at stake tonight when Enfield Town faced Hanwell Town in their FA Cup replay.

The two sides will face off for a second time in four days at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium after Saturday’s first encounter ended goalless, despite Enfield’s second-half dominance.

Following Monday’s draw though, the Towners know that victory will set up a home clash with the winners of another replay, between Phoenix Sports and Glebe, which is also due to be played tonight after their first meeting ended 2-2.

The third qualifying round takes place on the weekend of Saturday, September 30, with £7,500 on offer to the victors.

Saturday’s trip to west London saw Enfield offer plenty of endeavour in the opening period, but chances were at a premium. However, the visitors upped the ante after the break and could count themselves unlucky not to get the job done at the first time of asking.

Hanwell goalkeeper Xavi Comas, who was to have a busy afternoon, had to deal with a corner before saving a right-footed Aaron Greene shot, while Joe Wright dealt with a Jesse Kewley-Graham effort at the other end.

Enfield continued to look for the breakthrough, with Simon Thomas narrowly failing to connect with a fine Drew Roberts cross, Dan Rumens saw a header tipped over by Comas, before Roberts cracked a shot against the crossbar from a Greene corner.

The Towners intensified the pressure after the restart as Ryan Blake had an effort saved, a Roberts header resulted in the same outcome and Darren Purse nodded over the top.

It was by no means one-way traffic though, with Hanwell looking dangerous on the counter, but it was the Bostik Premier side who looked the more likely to make the breakthrough.

Comas proved equal to further shots from Blake and Mario Noto, before Blake went even closer when he rattled the woodwork with seven minutes to go.

The visitors had to survive a late scare when Wright chose to punch a dangerous ball into the box, but he recovered and the danger was averted.

But there was still time for the Towners to go close again when Rumens had a precise effort cleared off the line and the full-back was thwarted again when his header was saved by Comas.

Enfield are due to return to league action on Saturday with a trip to Needham Market.
