It was the final bit of South London & Kent Pool Alliance summer 2017 league business this week, as Sharks from Tier Two West took on Tier Two East's Bellegrove Flyers, to see who would be promoted to the Elite League next summer.

Sharks were unlucky not to be promoted automatically, as they finished level on points with champions, Eltham Terrace Nuthouse but finished second, having lost one more match.

On the other hand Flyers had a shaky start to the season, not winning at home in the first half of the season but were unbeaten in the second half, victorious in all seven matches home and away.

So Sharks were the slight favourites going into this match but Flyers had form on their side.

That form continued as Paul Dawson and Keith Smith took the first two frames for Flyers, the latter being a close tactical battle with Eno Idiong.

Arif Salih and Rahat Munim won the next two frames for Sharks, to take the set into a final frame decider.

Jeff Laporte played Graham Lamb, who wasn't sheepish and gave Flyers the lead by 3 frames to 2.

Dawson extended Flyers lead with the first frame of the second set but Munim reduced the gap again with his second win of the night.

The next two frames were shared to take the second set into another decider, with Lamb duly obliging again to give Flyers a, 6-4 lead going into the final set.

The eleventh frame saw Dawson record his hat-trick, leaving Flyers needing just one more frame for promotion.

Munim had other ideas and won his third frame of the night with a break and dish to bring Sharks to within two frames again.

But it was all in vain as the thirteenth frame wasn't unlucky for Keith Mitchell, who took it to win the match, 8-5 and give Flyers promotion to the Elite League.

That's league business over for summer 2017, all the SLKPA have left to do is decide their singles and pairs champions.

Well done to all teams who competed this season and good luck to those playing in the remaining tournaments.
