Tottenham will be itching to get their Premier League campaign up and running when they travel to newly promoted Newcastle United on Sunday (kick off 1.30pm).

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be desperate to build on a second placed finish last season, the club’s highest in the Premier League era and the first in which they have usurped north London rivals Arsenal since 1995.

All the noises out of the club have been rather muted in truth, with the club yet to make a single addition to their squad all summer long.

It is surprising to see the lack of developments on the transfer front, especially when you consider the club continue to harbour ambitions of landing a first top flight title since Bill Nicholson’s 1960-1961 double winning side.

The club will of course have to make do without the services of £50 million right back Kyle Walker who sealed his move north to Manchester City earlier in the window.

But Spurs have a ready-made replacement waiting in the wings in last season’s back-up Kieran Trippier, though his injury scare against Juventus in their final pre-season outing could spur Pochettino back into the market as he looks to strengthen his squad.

Providing some support for star man Harry Kane may also figure as a priority, with Kane’s 29 goals propelling Spurs to 86 points last time out – a total that normally would secure the title.

With each of their competitors for both the top four and the title strengthening, the pressure may well be ramped up on chairman Daniel Levy who so far has remained tight lipped on new recruits.

Their hopes of a title push this season will hinge on how well they settle at their temporary home for a season, Wembley.

It goes without saying that White Hart Lane was something of a fortress last season and getting off on the right note there will be the focus of their attentions once they have negotiated a tricky trip to the North East.
