A dream has come true for an Epping student after she was selected to represent Great Britain at the American Football World Championships.

Naomi Harryman will fly to Vancouver, Canada in four weeks time.

Harryman, who is the youngest travelling player, was first introduced to the sport last year at Leeds Beckett University freshers fayre.

She signed up to play with Carnegie Chargers and was soon scouted to train with the British squad.

The 18-year-old, who turns 19 in two weeks, normally trains as a heptathlete and a long jumper, skills she has transferred into the American game.

However, she had to take a break in her athletics career due to a pending foot operation, but this has not stopped her ability to run.

“I am so excited to be representing Great Britain in the World Championships,” said Harryman.

“We have a strong team which will hopefully challenge the US and Canadian Teams.”

Harryman play as a defensive back as well as in special teams.

The team has nearly 50 players and support staff who will all travel to Canada for the tournament.

All the matches will be streamed live.
