Enfield Ignatians have yet to beat Hammersmith & Fulham in the London leagues after they lost 19-25 in a London Two North West fixture.

The blue and golds were, however, able to rescue a losing bonus point at Donkey Lane on Saturday.

Ignatians were 22-0 down at the break after the strong starting west Londoners cut loose by running-in three tries, two of which were converted along with a penalty.

Hammersmith went further ahead in the 47th minute to go 25-0 up, after landing a second penalty and it got worse for the hosts after Ignatians had a player sin-binned.

However, Ignatians eventually rallied and some good phase play enabled the blue and golds to erode the deficit after Luke Stack stormed over the try-line.

Jake Bates was the next to go over just before the hosts added a third following a 50-metre break from captain Keir Bonnar.

He was felled meters from the line but Ignatians recycled quickly and good support play allowed Luke Ellis to whistle clean through under the sticks.

Bates added a second conversion and although the hosts continued to engage all-out attack mode as they went all out for the elusive fourth try, some resolute defence from the visitors enabled Hammersmith to keep their line intact.

Bonnar said: "We didn't play well in the first-half when we made defensive errors off limited possession.

"In the second-half, we played with more direction, control and intensity which enabled us to get back in the game, although it was too late.

"However, credit to the players for coming back from 22-0 down at half-time to rescue a losing bonus point. We can't afford to let teams build a lead before we start to play."

The blue and golds face a tough trip on Saturday as they face Belsize Park away from home.
