Enfield Town got back to winning ways at the weekend as they defeated Wingate & Finchley 5-1 in a Ryman Premier League fixture.

It has been a tough couple of matches for Town having dropped six points against lower-table opposition but came back with a bang on Saturday.

New signing Karl Oliyide made a quick impact as he fired into Wingate's side netting in the first minute of the match.

The home net was soon shaking again but this time with the ball on the right side of the net as Bobby Devyne picked up on a Samir Bihmoutine pass and let fly from 30-yards to open the scoring.

Minutes later, Shane Gore had to keep out Oliyide but it was not before long the new defender whipped in a cross for Harry Ottaway to apply the finishing touch after 11 minutes.

Town found their third with no reply just after the half-an-hour mark when former Wingate player Oliyide slid the ball into the back of the net.

However, Wingate did not give in and just before half-time, Nathan McDonald had to deny Tommy Tejan-Sie from being able to reduce the deficit.

Reece Beckles-Richards also had a chance to score for the hosts but his shot was well off target.

In the second half, Wingate ran in the changes and got back into the game within 10 minutes of the restart.

Substitute Ben Pattie latched onto a pass from Luke Ifil and turned well to pull one back.

But the comeback was stopped in its tracks after former Towner Claudiu Vilcu for a clear penalty which was turned in by Billy Crook from the spot.

Ottaway scored his second and what was deemed the goal of the game when he beat two defenders before turning and sending Gore the wrong way as he slammed the ball home.

The Town now sits sixth in the table as they prepare to face Merstham, who are 21st, on Saturday in a 3pm kickoff at the QES Stadium.
