Tears of joy: George Hackney found her marathon experience emotional
An Earlsfield woman, who rubbed shoulders with Gordon Ramsay and Sally Gunnell on the London Marathon starting line, has described how she finished the race with tears in her eyes.
Marathon first-timer George Hackney, 30, of Crealock Street, enjoyed a memorable start to the race after winning a starting spot in the VIP area and warming up with the stars beforehand.
But she said this was nothing compared with the experience of crossing the finishing line.
"It was really emotional," she said. "I was running as fast as I could, but it was hard to breathe because I was welling up so much. When I crossed the finishing line, I couldn't stop."
Miss Hackney finished in an impressive four hours and 18 minutes, and raised £1,500 for charity Kids Company.
