Hawkins hits four in handball defeat

Mark Hawkins took little consolation from his four-goal haul in the latest defeat for the GB men's handball team.

They lost 33-21 to Argentina after previous thrashings by France and Sweden.

The score was a lot closer this time but Horsham left winger Hawkins said: "It was a big game for us, one of our target games.

"We should have kept it a little bit closer in the first half with a couple of chances we should have scored and a couple at the end that we gave them very cheaply. Then in the second half it was disappointing to let it slip away so quickly.

Hawkins' tally in a side also containing ex-Crowborough resident Seb Prieto included a first half hat-trick in front of another enthusiastic crowd at the Copper Box.

He said: "It's nice to score goals, a privilege in front of these fans. They celebrate everything like it's the winning goal but I was just doing a role for the team and everybody was trying to keep the scoreboard ticking over."
